![]() | The
Tithe Map of 1840 shows The George in situ as a public house so it has been serving the
public for over 160 years. Nestled into the rolling hills of the Sussex Downs The George is just off the beaten track in the small village of Eartham, idyllically situated just 6 miles from the bustling city of Chichester and within 10 miles of Petworth, Midhurst and Arundel. A traditional English pub that spans all seasons providing the comfort of open fires when the weather is chill and a pretty garden for bright summer days. A selection of good walks in this area includes a particularly interesting section of Stane Street accessible in Eartham Woods, an easy 1/2 mile walk from the pub. | ||||||||
The George is a privately owned traditional Freehouse/restaurant offering a warm welcome and a menu that takes full advantage of delicious locally sourced ingredients such as locally sourced Lamb and Funtingdon Sausages. A full a la carte menu is available including a blackboard with daily specials and a selection of traditional roasts on a Sunday. Traditional pub favourites include our own ham cooked in house served with egg & chips or in freshly prepared sandwiches. Whether you want a full meal or only a light bite, your food is freshly prepared using ingredients chosen to reflect the seasons. A well kept cellar includes a wide selection of wines and soft drinks plus lagers, ciders and a varied choice of locally brewed real ales on tap. The
large open fire in the lounge makes this a cosy place to warm yourself
on dark winter days while the newly installed wood burner in the old
fireplace in the dining room makes a lovely atmosphere while
you enjoy a meal. The restaurant is also a perfect setting
for small
functions, wedding parties, presentation evenings or family re-unions.
The village bar with its flagstone floors and comfortable seating
is a great place to warm up after a long walk with the dog (well
behaved & on a lead, please). Add a large garden for fine
days and this can be the perfect place to enjoy a slice of
England. | |||||||||
